Interview Tips and Suggestions
- Greet with a firm handshake. Make sure it isn't too weak or too hard. Practice with friends or family.
- Make an appropriate amount of eye contact.
- Smile and seem relaxed -- regardless if you are or not!
- Answer questions directly -- don't skirt around with your answer.
- State what you have learned from previous job experience, do not talk poorly of previous employers.
- Explain how your skills will be an asset to the job you are applying for.
- Appear confident.
Before Your Interview
- Don't forget to shower and brush your hair.
- Practice answering common interview questions (located on page 4).
- Brush your teeth.
- Research the company and position you are applying for.
- Come up with questions to ask the interviewer.
- Update your resume and bring it with you.
- Turn your cell phone off.
- Arrive early (about 10-15 minutes).
- Go alone, do not bring children, family, or friends.
- Know your weaknesses and strengths and be prepared to talk about them.
- Wear the proper attire (on the previous page "Proper Attire").
- Be courteous to the secretary.
After Your Interview
- Thank your interviewer for their time.
- If it is not given to you, ask when you will hear back from them.
- Send a thank-you letter.
- Follow up with the interviewer in an appropriate time frame.
- If you want the job - tell the interviewer!
- If you are rejected, be graceful. You may have other opportunities with the company, don't ruin them!
